Different Points of View

Well, hi there.

We had a discussion today in English class about how and why we see differently. So, why do we?

My opinion is that everyone has their own, special perspective of things. I think we do this because, well, it's human nature. Everyone has their own view of things - and you'd be surprised at how some points of views can be totally different from each other.

This 'seeing differently' can affect meaning and understanding because one person might side with their own perspective of a situation while another person might have a totally different perspective of the situation. This often results in conflict and arguments on which or who's perspective is more logical.

I also now know that judging others is human nature (we judge a lot of things everyday) and that stereotypes can't be helped. For example, if you were Asian, people would expect you to get good grades. This is very stereotypical and isn't always true. So for me, stereotypes are really normal and they don't bother me as much. What to be cautious about being a stereotype is to keep comments that are harmful to others or racist to yourself so that you won't hurt other people's feelings and your own.

Oh, and one more thing I've learned: there is always different sides to a story. This is very true, since there are a lot of different perspectives.

And one final example: some of you are reading this post and going, "yawn". But others might think differently. See? There are always different perspectives.
